Bear Republic is looking for its Bomber.
In a daring theft that was caught on surveillance cameras, someone driving a motor home pulled up behind the Bear Republic Brewery's manufacturing plant in Cloverdale last Saturday, hooked up to a trailer that was holding the company's classic “Bomber 15” race car and drove away.
“It happened near dusk over the July Fourth weekend when the building was unoccupied,” said Cloverdale Police Sgt. Stephen Cramer. “We have seen the video footage but unfortunately we were unable to make out a license plate.”
Cloverdale Police issued a lookout alert for the distinctively marked race car — a custom built 1972 Chevrolet Camaro painted blue and yellow with a red number 15 on the side — and the trailer, which has black tires with the words “Good Beer” in white on the sidewall instead of “Goodyear.”
The longtime craft brewer, which has a restaurant and pub in Healdsburg, has posted wanted fliers on social media with photos of the car and surveillance images of the motor home, a 1978 Dodge Tioga, taken at the time of the theft.
The race car is valued at $25,000, according to Sgt. Cramer, who added he had no knowledge of similar thefts in the area.
Bear Republic managers could not be reached Friday afternoon. Anyone with information about the theft is asked to contact Cloverdale Police at 894-2150 or Bear Republic at its manufacturing offices at 894-2722.
