Twelve people were displaced from their homes Thursday morning after a stove fire in a third-story apartment set off the sprinklers, flooding that apartment and the two below it, Santa Rosa Battalion Chief Mark Basque said.
The fire was called in shortly before 8 a.m. at Rowan Court Apartments on the 2000 block of West Steele Lane.
It appears a pot left on the stove got too hot, setting off the sprinklers, Basque said.
“What we had was a flooding issue,” he said.
Water dripped from the third-floor apartment to the second- and first-floor apartments, prompting all three to be evacuated.
The Red Cross was called to help the residents find another place to stay while the water was mopped up and electrical systems checked for damage, Basque said.
