Tamale Time at Cornerstone Sonoma: On Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Cornerstone Sonoma (23570 Arnold Drive, Sonoma) celebrates Cinco de Mayo with Mexican folk dancing, cooking demonstrations, kids activities, a special lunch, a tamale tasting and much more. Expect Mexican pastries, churros, sangria, margaritas and a lot of spicy fun.
There will be an opportunity to vote for your favorite tamale. Awards will include “People's Choice,” “Best Traditional Tamale,” and “Best Non-Traditional Tamale.” As of press time, there were seven competitors.
Admission is $20 for adults and $10 for kids aged 3 to 12. You might want to bring a blanket to lounge on the grass and maybe even enjoy a nap after filling up on tamales.
Mother's Day Reservations: There are countless possibilities for last-minute fun on Mother's Day but a couple of local events require forethought if you want to participate.
At the top of Ms. Mouthful's list is Mother's Day Mimosa Brunch on the Sonoma Serengeti at Safari West.
There are two options, one in the morning and one in the afternoon.
The morning packages begins with brunch at 10 a.m., followed by a trek on the African Queen at 11:30 a.m. The afternoon package features brunch at 1:30 p.m. and a tour at 2:30 p.m.
Cost is $70 for adults and $35 for kids aged 4 to 12. If you want to come for brunch only, cost is $40.50 for adults and $18.50 for kids.
You can spend the night in a luxury safari tent for just $150.
There's a new Masai giraffe at Safari West, a little — so to speak — boy born on April 14 and you'll be able to see him frolicking with his mom, dad and aunties.
