Police still investigating Santa Rosa stabbing

Santa Rosa police are still investigating what provoked the Sunday morning stabbing of a 19-year-old Santa Rosa man near the historic McDonald Avenue district.

Shane Schueler was stabbed at least twice in his torso at about 3:30 a.m. near Pacific and McDonald avenues while leaving a party on nearby Wright Street, Sgt. Dave Linscomb said. Schueler might have been kicked out of the party, Linscomb said.

Police have arrested James Kamau, 18, of Santa Rosa, and two youths, ages 15 and 17, on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. Police do not believe the three assailants were at the party and it's not clear how they encountered Schueler, Linscomb said.

One of the three had a prior contact with police that was possibly gang-related, Linscomb said, but he could not provide additional information about the nature of that run-in with police. Officers don't think the attack was gang-related, he said.

Police are still trying to learn more about what led to the stabbing.

“We're interviewing everyone we can find,” Linscomb said.
