Bernard and Lavonne (Twyman) Primbsch celebrated their 60th anniversary at home with their daughter, Debbie, on New Year's Eve. They received congratulation calls from daughter Cindy Bennie and son Mark.
In January, the couple took a 15-day Hawaiian cruise with their best friends from high school, Phyllis and Bliss Magly, who were still celebrating their 2013 60th wedding anniversary. Bernard worked for Lavonne's father.
Debbie said of her parents' first meeting, “My parents met when my dad was working with my mother's father, and he brought him home for dinner. He told my mom and her sisters to be nice to this shy young man. My mom must have been the nicest.”
They were married on Jan. 1, 1954, at the Assembly of God Church in Boyes Hot Springs. The Rev. Howard Davis officiated. They honeymooned in Reno. After the wedding, they moved to Santa Rosa.
Lavonne worked in Santa Rosa for the phone company and Bernard worked for American Asphalt of Petaluma.
They enjoy taking cruises as well as traveling by Amtrak to their destinations.
Their hobbies and recreation activities include seeing movies, reading, gardening, walking their dog and camping with the family at both Doran and Wrights beaches.
Family members include: daughter, Debbie, of Santa Rosa; daughter, Cindy Bennie, of Middletown; and son, Mark, of Bakersfield. They have two grandsons, Ryan and Dustin Bennie, with one great-grandson on the way this year.
Their advice for a long and happy marriage is, “Don't sweat the small stuff. Have love, patience, a sense of humor, and truly enjoy each other's company.”
