About 500 people turned out under sunny skies Saturday for the 39th Cloverdale Fiddle Festival.

The event held at the Cloverdale Citrus fairgrounds featured about 60 fiddlers competing for prizes as well as performances by bluegrass and old-time bands.

There were also guitar and mandolin players.

“It was a good turnout and the weather really helped,” organizer Mark Hogan said.

The festival, which nearly met its end in 2010 when city officials said they could no longer fund it, returned to its original one-day format this year.
