Rally against human trafficking on Wednesday

First responders and others who work with victims of human trafficking will join in Santa Rosa Courthouse Square on Wednesday to rally against what state and national authorities say is the fastest growing criminal enterprise in the world.

One of the speakers will be a woman who escaped the sex trade last year after local law enforcement authorities got involved in her case - a living testament to the fact that human trafficking can and does happen here, Santa Rosa police Detective Chris Mahurin said.

Wednesday's rally runs from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and is being organized by the Sonoma County Human Trafficking Task Force, which is run out of the District Attorney's Office, to coincide with National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month.

The aim is to raise awareness about all forms of human trafficking and sex slavery, which affects all ages and genders, organizers say.
