Feast of 7 Fishes at Spoonbar

Executive chef Louis Maldonado of Spoonbar will re-create the traditional Italian Feast of the Seven Fishes at the restaurant over the course of seven days leading up to Christmas Day.

From Dec. 18 through Dec. 24, the chef will prepare a five-course menu each night, giving a modern, global twist to all kinds of shellfish, bottom fish and crustaceans.

Among other creatures, Maldonado will be playing with oysters, ocean trout, sea urchin, crab, shrimp, abalone, clams, yellowfin tuna, geoduck clam, black cod, squid, snapper and flounder.

Cost is $75, not including tax or tip. For a complete menu, go to spoonbar.com. 433-7222. 219 Healdsburg Ave.

Revived Kenwood Restaurant opens

The Kenwood Restaurant reopened in mid-November under new owner Bill Foss, who gave the historic, ranch-style building a facelift and added a bocce court and outdoor pond.

The Wine Country roadhouse, which was run by Swiss chef Max Schacher for the past 26 years, now offers a menu of Sonoma regional cuisine, with dishes ranging from cioppino to rabbit sausage.

“We're trying to say this is a very important region, just as important as Provence and Spain,” Foss said. “And we're trying to define what it is and use local products to make Sonoma food.”

Foss, who lives in Windsor, owns Fish restaurant in Sausalito as well as a sustainable seafood company, TwoxSea, which has partnered with the McFarland Springs Trout Farm in Lassen County to produce farmed trout raised on an all-vegetarian diet.

Foss designed The Kenwood Restaurant's menu in collaboration with chef Anthony Paone. In a nod to its former incarnation as Bunny's Country Kitchen, the restaurant serves “bunny wings” (fried rabbit forelegs.)

In addition to wine and beer, the restaurant offers a full bar with a focus on cocktails from the garden.

Kenwood Restaurant is open from noon to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday. 9900 Sonoma Highway. kenwoodrestaurant.com. 833-6326.
