Letter of the Day: Consider the spirit

  • The corner of Fourth and D streets, shown Saturday afternoon, is a common hangout for people who don't have homes. As the weather turns cold and wet, people who have been camping come into downtown Santa Rosa to get out of the elements and be closer to city services. (Alvin Jornada / The Press Democrat)

EDITOR: In this season of giving and gratitude, I would like to appeal to the kindness, compassion and generosity of the people of Sonoma County for the less fortunate. The start of winter is here, and this creates a crisis for the homeless population. There are more than 3,000 Sonoma County citizens left without protective shelter on any given night when all the shelters are full, which is life-threatening during freezing weather. There is an urgent need for sleeping bags, gloves and socks.

If you are able to provide any of these items, please drop them off at Catholic Charities service center at 600 Morgan St., Santa Rosa. Any donation of these items is greatly appreciated.
