SEBASTOPOL/FORESTVILLE: Learn washi technique for egg ornaments

Decorative eggs are not just for Easter.

Barbara Friedman will teach classes on the ancient art of making washi egg ornaments on Dec. 4 and 7 in Sebastopol and Forestville.

Friedman will show how to decorate real eggs using Japanese washi, a fine decorative paper. They can be used as tree ornaments or New Year's gifts.

“Eggs are often shared among friends and are symbols of new beginnings,” said Friedman, who introduced the craft to Martha Stewart and has been teaching it for more than 10 years.

Classes are two hours and will be held at 1 p.m. Dec. 4 at Coffee Catz, 6761 Sebastopol Ave., Sebastopol, and at 2 p.m. Dec. 7 at the Tiny Town Cafe and Pastry, 6544 Front St., Forestville.

Cost is $30. Lunch will be available at both locations for an additional charge, as well as washi egg kits.
