Mendocino County authorities Wednesday were investigating what appeared to be skeletal human remains found at Standish-Hickey State Park near Leggett.
State firefighters discovered the remains just before 9:30 a.m. during a training exercise in the park, Mendocino County Sheriff's Capt. Greg Van Patten said.
The remains were found in a creek bed in the southern portion of the park near Highway101, Van Patten said.
State parks officials asked the Sheriff's Office to handle the case.
Investigators with the state Department of Justice and the Mendocino County District Attorney's Office were aiding the investigation.
Further details were not immediately available.
