A series of crashes partially closed northbound Highway 101 in Santa Rosa Monday night and covered some traffic lanes in a slick oil residue, according to CHP reports.
One person was taken by ambulance to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital after suffering significant injuries, emergency dispatchers said.
The first crash was reported just after 8:30 p.m. involving a black vehicle that had spun out just south of Baker Avenue, according to the CHP log.
Witnesses reported two vehicles, including a black Dodge Charger, appeared to be racing prior to the crash, according to preliminary reports.
Vehicles coming upon the scene spun out after hitting debris, blocking lanes, according to CHP reports.
Two lanes were still closed as of 9:20 p.m.
