Harvest Fair honors Sangiacomo family

The 2013 Sonoma County Harvest Fair is honoring the Sangiacomo family with its Lifetime Contribution to the Sonoma County Wine Industry Award.

Since 1969, Sangiacomo Family Vineyards has consistently produced some of the top growing fruit in the region, from vineyards spanning the Carneros, Sonoma Valley and Sonoma Coast.

The first winery to bottle a vineyard-designated Sangiacomo wine was Gundlach Bundschu of Sonoma, followed by Joseph Phelps Vineyards in Napa Valley. Now, there are 76 producers who purchase grapes from the family.

Initiated in 2011, the award recognizes a family or company within the wine industry that has made outstanding contributions to the industry and Sonoma County.

The 2013 Sonoma County Harvest Fair will be held Oct. 4 to 6 at the Sonoma County Fairgrounds. www.harvestfair.org.

Glendi fair serves up global ethnic feast

The 24th annual Glendi Ethnic Food Fair will serve up a global feast from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday at St. Seraphim Orthodox Church.

The festival features foods from Russia, Macedonia, Eritrea, Greece, the Balkans and the Middle East. Dishes include such delicacies as Russian piroshki, Greek gyros, Eritrean inerja bread, and an array of international desserts, including baklava sundaes. Beverages range from craft beer and wine to artisan teas and coffee.

Rounding out the festival, there will be live music and dancing, a children's area, ethnic crafts and tours that explain the structure and iconography of an Orthodox church.

Admission is $5, free for children under 12. 90 Mountain View Ave., across from Friedman's Home Improvement.

B.R. Cohn festival this weekend

Tickets are on sale for the 27th annual B.R. Cohn Fall Music Festival, featuring a charity auction kick-off dinner Friday prepared by chef Mark Stark.

The auction and dinner will be held at 6 p.m. Friday at the winery's 140-year-old olive grove. Tickets are $175 and include a five-course meal and a performance by Pablo Cruise.
