Twin Hills School District, teachers OK contract deal

The Twin Hills School District Board of Trustees on Thursday unanimously approved a deal that will give the Sebastopol school district’s approximately 60 teachers a 5 percent raise for the current school year.

The boost is in addition to the annual step and column pay raises based on a teacher’s experience and education. Those average about 2 percent annually.

The move is expected to cost the 1,200-student district $250,000 annually after it is applied to classified employees as well as teachers. It is district practice to give all employees, including the superintendent, the same deal reached with teachers.

The vote was unanimous and comes after months of negotiations came to impasse.

“We are glad that we could come to an agreement where we could make a good offer,” Superintendent Barbara Bickford said.
