Jordan Estate's first ever tour and tasting: Just in time to celebrate the grape harvest, Jordan Estate is launching its first ever Estate Tour and Tasting Experience, a farm-to-table visitor experience that includes wine, food and olive oil paired with views of the Alexander Valley estate. During the tour, guests will journey to remote corners of the 1,200-acre estate for an excursion showcasing foods grown on the property. The estate comprises more than 1,000 acres of land, including 110 acres of grapevines, 18 acres of olive trees, plus a wide range of natural habitats, from lakes and pastures to rolling hills. Under the direction of second-generation vintner John Jordan, it has evolved into a working ranch with chickens for eggs, cattle for beef, bees for honey and a cutting garden for flowers. Each guided tour hosts up to 12 guests for three hours of exploration. Guests will be transported in a luxury vehicle. Foods paired with Jordan Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon will be served at three locations during the tour. The tours are offered by appointment Thursdays through Mondays, through mid-November. 'Oil and Honey' author to speak: Best-selling author, environmentalist and activist Bill McKibben, author of “Oil and Honey: The Education of an Unlikely Activist,” will speak at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept 15 at Burlingame Hall. McKibben co-founded 350.org, a global climate change campaign, with Sonoma native May Boeve. At the event, Readers' Books will sell copies of “Oil and Honey,” a memoir that recounts McKibben's journey from Harvard student to environmental activist and Methodist Sunday-school teacher. The hall is located at 252 West Spain St. The talk is free.
