Highway 1 at the Sonoma Coast north of Timber Cove was closed for several hours Sunday morning as fire crews cleaned up an overnight vegetation blaze.

The fire, which began about 4:30 a.m. was 100 percent contained by mid-morning, Cal Fire spokeswoman said. The highway was reopened by 9 a.m.

The flames burned about three acres of grass and timber land in an area that had many downed trees.

According to the CHP and Cal Fire, those in Oceanside Campground in Stillwater Cove Regional Park were evacuated at about 5 a.m. It was unknown how many people that affected.

Sonoma County roads crews assisted with road blocks to allow fire crews safe access to the fire.

The cause of the fire was still being investigated.

Fire crews remained on scene Sunday morning to mop up, a Cal Fire spokeswoman said.
