St. Joseph – Sonoma County names interim CEO

SANTA ROSA, Sep. 17, 2008 – A former Bakersfield hospital administrator has been appointed interim chief executive officer for St. Joseph Health System – Sonoma.

St. Joseph officials tapped Kevin Klockenga as interim CEO to replace George Perez, who completed his final day Monday. Mr. Klockenga will oversee St. Joseph’s Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital and Petaluma Valley Hospital.

The former Catholic Healthcare West chief operating officer joined St. Joseph early this month as COO and will take on the CEO position while a nationwide search for a permanent successor is undertaken.

Mr. Klockenga brings 18 years health care management experience to St. Joseph. Under his leadership, the two Bakersfield Mercy hospitals claimed the highest operating margins and productivity in the Catholic Healthcare system. Also, inpatient and employee satisfaction scores increased significantly.

Mr. Perez announced his intention to leave the St. Joseph Health System – Sonoma County position last month after serving as CEO for about three years.
