Petaluma police arrest 30 drivers

Thirty people were arrested Friday on suspicion of drunken driving and other offenses, Petaluma police said.

Five drivers were arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, five others on suspicion of driving on a suspended license and 20 for allegedly driving without a license.

The checkpoints were at Frates Road and Ely Boulevard and at Washington and Lake-ville streets. Police screened 1,337 vehicles between 4 p.m. and 2 a.m., said Petaluma police Sgt. Ken Savano.

Twenty-five vehicles were towed, and 17 of those were impounded, Savano said. The checkpoints were paid for through a state grant.

    EXCELLENT!!! I'm always extremely happy to see these arrests of these lawbreakers who jeopardize all of our lives and shun the laws. The bad news is that this is such a small percentage of the total. Keep up the good work Petaluma police!!!

    Thank you Petaluma police for you vigilance, and practive policing. Those who would drive without a licence,regestation,insurance and or revoked - suspended lincence are more likely to run from law . If they are willing to drive without the above put others a risk and raise you insurance rates -The sherrif's dept could well protect the un-incoorperated parts of the county Take a look Bill Cogbill ths is pro-active reactive

    Don't look now but most of the ones with no license were back on the road before the tow truck had their old cars in the impound yard. Citations are a dime a dozen with these folks and almost all of them will never keep the court date. Check points are a good start but check points can't be everywhere at the same time.

    Nice work by the Petaluma Police Dept. As always, every other surrounding police agency has to take up the slack for the SRPD...WHY is it that the SRPD never seems to enforce traffic laws? Could it be because the political and bureaucratic "leadership" has taken the public of Santa Rosa hostage to THEIR political agenda in which the police are prevented from doing their jobs?????

    No DUI checkpoints.... No traffic enforcement except now & then. What is with the SRPD? Or, probably more accurately, what is with the bonehead bureaucrats in Santa Rosa City Council?

    Gees! This is probably the best accomplishment I have heard for such a program. Caught 'em with their pants down, didn't we! Hot Dog! How about posting names? Give us a 'flavor' for those arrested. Did I.C.E. participate?

    Checkpopints are unconstitutional. They used to do this in Nazi Germany and still do it in Iraq. We live in a free society here in the continental US and these roadblocks are bulls**t. Countries in the European Union would not put up with this crap either. It is just like the Nazi Germans asking for your papers so you can pass through a checkpoint. That sure sounds like communists to me and I think these DUI checkpoints are a violation of my civil rights.

    ...dui is a serious problem in germany and they conduct far more check points then here in the U.S...
