Petaluma Police will be looking for swerving drivers this evening at two drunken-driving checkpoints.

Officers also will be on the roads, pulling over and arresting drunken drivers.

"These operations are being conducted to raise the awareness of impaired driving by educating motorists, arresting impaired drivers and suspects with outstanding warrants," said Sgt. Ken Savano.

Last year, 41 people were arrested on drunken-driving charges in Sonoma County over the Labor Day weekend. Two of those were made at a Friday night Petaluma checkpoint.

Petaluma plans to operate checkpoints between 6 p.m. today and 2 a.m. Saturday at two undisclosed locations.

The increased DUI patrol will continue Monday, Savano said.
