Santa Rosa hits 96, Ukiah 100

The mercury reached a sweltering 96 degrees in Santa Rosa Friday afternoon, but relief is on the way.

High temperatures are expected to drop by as much as 10 degrees on Saturday, thanks to cooler air pushed inland from the Pacific Ocean.

"It's not going to be strong enough for fog, but you should have some push of cooler air," said Brian Tentinger, a meterologist for the U.S. Weather Service in Monterey.

He said highs on Sunday could dip as low as the upper 70s.

In the meantime, Healdsburg residents sweated Friday with temperatures of 98 degrees. The mercury in Ukiah topped 100 degrees as the heat wave continued.
