Woman dies in crash near Campbell Cove

A 44-year-old Santa Rosa woman was killed and her passenger seriously injured in a single-car crash when she failed to negotiate a hairpin turn near Bodega Head and Campbell Cove on Tuesday evening, authorities said.
The driver was identified as Lisa Hoyt, the CHP said. Alcohol and speed may be factors in the crash.
Her passenger, William Hoyt, 49, of Santa Rosa remained at Memorial Hospital in serious condition, a hospital spokeswoman said Wednesday. The CHP said he had suffered a broken neck and ribs and severe internal injuries.
Lisa Hoyt was driving a 2002 Mitsubishi Eclipse eastbound on West Shore Drive at 5:30 p.m. when her car drifted off the roadway and onto the dirt gravel shoulder area, the CHP said.
It appeared she tried to steer back onto the roadway when she lost control and the Eclipse slid sideways off the road above Campbell Cove. It plunged about 150 feet over a steep, brush-covered embankment, the CHP said.
The car, Bodega Battalion Chief Todd Rollings said, “landed on its roof and crushed the roof completely flat, and then flipped back over and landed on its wheels.”
The driver died at the scene.
