Seawolves picked second by CCAA coaches

The Sonoma State women’s soccer team was picked to finish second in the CCAA North Division and advance to the conference tournament in a vote of league head coaches on Tuesday. Two of the voters even picked the Seawolves to win their first conference championship since 1997.

Sonoma State finished fourth in the North last year with a 5-7-2 record. However, three of those losses were by forfeit, meaning the Seawolves played to an 8-4-2 record on the field. SSU was 10-7-2 overall in 2007.

Chico State, which captured its first CCAA title last season, was picked to repeat in 2008. The Wildcats received 8 of 11 votes to win the North and a league-high four votes to win the conference tournament. Cal State Dominguez Hills received three conference champion votes and UC San Diego and Sonoma State received two.

The Seawolves have an exhibition game against Dominican University today at 4 p.m. and the regular season begins August 28 at the University of Hawaii-Hilo.
