Firefighters have gotten the upper hand on two wildfires in Inyo National Forest.

Fire officials say the Big Trees Fire in Bishop Creek Canyon was contained at 95 acres on Thursday.

Two campgrounds that had been evacuated two days ago have been reopened.

Fire spokesman John Louth says the blaze was contained quickly because air tankers and helicopters were available soon after it was ignited by lightning on Tuesday.

About 30 miles away near Mammoth Lakes, the Sheridan Fire was 84 percent contained at 347 acres and is expected to be contained by tonight.

Fire spokesman Matt Corelli says 30 structures were threatened, "but the threat is diminishing quickly."
