WINE & MUSIC IN PETALUMA
The Petaluma Wine, Jazz and Blues Festival debuts Saturday, boasting a line-up that long-established festivals would envy: Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, the Pete Escovedo Latin Jazz Orchestra with Sheila E., and Lydia Pense and Cold Blood.
The event, a fund-raiser for music education programs at Petaluma schools, runs noon-8 p.m. on Second Street between B and C streets. Advance tix: $35 music only, $45 includes six wine tastes; $5 more day of show. Kids 12 and under free. pwjb.org, 769-9650.

GEARING UP FOR
GRAPE TO GLASS
The Russian River Valley's fog-shrouded vines get their day in the sun Aug. 15-17 during the annual Grape to Glass Weekend.
Highlights include dinner and an outdoor screening of "Double Indemnity," starring Fred MacMurray, at the late actor's ranch Friday night. Saturday offers bike, balloon and kayak rides in the morning and a Hog in the Fog barbecue at 4 p.m. at Richard's Grove and Saralee's Vineyard in Windsor. At 11 a.m. Sunday, the Wings over Wine Country Air show takes off. $400 for all-event package; $50-$250 for individual events. To reserve, go to rrvw.org or call 521-2535.

FIRST-TIME FEST
SETS BAR HIGH
Home to dozens of concerts, field days and jubilees, Golden Gate Park may have finally found the fest to end all fests. When San Franciso's Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival rises from the Polo Fields Aug. 22-24, the headliners are obvious monsters of rock: Radiohead, Jack Johnson and Tom Petty. But dig a little deeper, past Wilco, Primus and Ben Harper and you'll find plenty of homegrown gems like The Coup, Sila and Afrofunk Experience.
Finally, San Francisco has a weekend fest on par with any other lollapalooza in the country. Details: www.sfoutsidelands.com.
