98° SUNNY, Motorcyclist dies after crash near Lakeport

A motorcyclist was killed Saturday outside Lakeport when he lost control of his cycle on Highway 175 and crashed into a guardrail.
The accident occurred about 1:30 p.m. Saturday while the man was riding with a group of friends about five miles west of Lakeport, Lakeport Fire Department paramedic Spencer Johnson said.
The motorcyclist's friends and other drivers who stopped at the scene tried to keep him from moving his neck.
REACH Air Medical Services was called from Santa Rosa, but the motorcyclist was not stable enough to be transported by air, Johnson said. The man, who was wearing a helmet and other protective gear, stopped breathing shortly after paramedics arrived, he said.
The man, who has not been identified, was pronounced dead at Sutter Lakeside Hospital in Lakeport, Johnson said.

Unfortunately, as more turn to motorized two wheel vehicles to save on gas and enjoy themselves, these stories are going to increase exponentially. I've taken the local motorcycle training course and the majority of these crashes seem to be related to speed. The longer you're on a bike without a crash, the more everything slows down. Your confidence grows and you believe nothing can go wrong.
Two wheel vehicles are ridiculously fun to ride, but make sure you're trained and ready for the road.

This man was a friend of mine. He was well trained, experienced, and was responsibly wearing plenty of protective gear. Please do not immediately assume that he recklessly brought this on himself.

This is just too sad! Seems every day now there is a death from motor cycle drivers. I think cars pay no attention to these people. Look around you please !!

Unfortunately they are two wheeled caskets. However it is not always the motorcycles fault. There are plenty of reckless car drivers as well. Please look both ways and double check. Specially in the evening as the sun starts to go down and the sun is in ur eyes. Motorcyclist are very hard to see.

As a motorcycle rider, I know riders are well aware of the risks and choose to do it anyway. I also know that I am more keenly aware of looking for motorcycles on the road and STILL came VERY close to pulling in front of one that had to take evasive action. They are not as visible to other drivers. Yes, the Motorcycle safety class is excellent and teaches how to avoid hazards and take evasive action, be defensive drivers. We could all use some refresher courses on driving more safely. It is true, more 2 wheelers will crop up with high fuel costs, we are well advised to be more aware of them. Blaming riders for speeding is not the answer, but only one piece of the big picture.

Came across this poor guy right after the accident occurred.No matter how or what happened it's sad.My husband went up to him to offer CPR but there was a nurse already by his side.We stayed until the CHP arrived and had to go on our way, hoping and praying for a good outcome... Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends

Drove by this accident just after the CHP arrived....after seeing the guys yellow motorcycle stuffed into the guardrail I knew the guy had to be hurt really bad. I asked one of the persons that was help flagging traffic if he was okay and he said, "We don't know if he made it." I could not get this accident out of my mind and read on the homepage today that he died. My prayers are with the friends and family.

A few weeks ago, my nephew wrecked his Harley on a guard rail. He is also experienced. Luckily, he only needed about 15 stitches. I am so thankful, yet so very sad for this man's family and loved ones.
