102 degrees and more on the way

Temperatures soared to more than 100 degrees from Healdsburg to Sonoma on Friday, sending folks for cover at Infineon Raceway, the Sonoma-Marin Fair in Petaluma and elsewhere.

Healdsburg was at 102 degrees by midafternoon as was Santa Rosa and Sonoma. Santa Rosa's record for the date was 105 in 1973.

At Infineon, throw in the roar of hot engines and the reflection of the raceway and the heat was were nearly unbearable without a spot of shade.

At the Sonoma-Marin Fair in Petaluma, patrons weathered the heat with ice cream and lemonade .

"It's intense. We've spent at least $15 on drinks to stay cool," said Kristen Orr, 15, of Santa Rosa. "It makes you want to go on the rides because the wind is like free air conditioning," she said.

The first weekend of summer brought a heat advisory from the remains in effect through Saturday, according to the National Weather Service.

The Weather Service forecast a high near 98 degrees for Saturday and near 88 on Sunday.
