MENDOCINO CALLS FILM FANS

It just may be one of the few film festivals without a real movie theater. But that doesn't matter when you have an entire charming coastal village as a venue.

Among the filmmakers on tap for the Mendocino Film Festival May 29-June 1 are Stephen Simon, whose uplifting oeuvre includes "What Dreams May Come" and "Conversations with God," and local Mendo-dweller Will Geiger screening his new film "Elvis and Anabelle," with Blake Lively and Mary Steenburgen.

HAPPY BLUES

BY THE RIVER

Everyone gets the blues sometimes, and a lot of music lovers look forward to it. The Russian River Blues Festival, running 11 a.m.-6 p.m. June 14-15 at Johnson's Beach in Guerneville, will make blues fans happy.

Just look at this roster: Jonny Lang, the Fabulous Thunderbirds, Shemekia Copeland, Dan Hicks and the Hot Licks on June 14; Los Lonely Boys, Robben Ford, Coco Montoya and Earl Thomas on June 15.

GREEN MUSIC

FEST AIMS HIGH

Sonoma State University's Green Music Festival will stretch beyond its usual borders this summer, making forays into jazz, world music and politics.

"We're trying to . . . show the breadth of what the Green Music Center is about," said Floyd Ross, executive director of the center due to open in 2010. Highlights of the eight-concert series: jazz by the Jackie Ryan Trio on July 12; Clerestory, an a cappella vocal ensemble, July 13; Pacific Mozart Ensemble, on July 16; cabaret singer Wesla Whitfield on July 19; and Quartet San Francisco on July 20. Willie Brown, the Bay Area's best-dressed politician, will speak about his new book on July 15.
