Ex-Cardinals receiver joins 49ers

The 49ers agreed to terms Friday on a one-year contract with veteran wide receiver Bryant Johnson, his agent, Joel Segal said.
Johnson, 27, a first-round pick in the 2003 draft, has spent most of his five-year career as the Cardinals' No. 3 wideout behind Anquan Boldin and Larry Fitzgerald. He will get a chance to win a starting job for the 49ers in Mike Martz's offense.
Last season, Johnson caught 46 passes for 528 yards and two touchdowns. Johnson went unsigned through the first two weeks of free agency.
The 49ers now have six receivers with NFL experience under contract. The club last week signed Isaac Bruce, formerly of the St. Louis Rams. Darrell Jackson, Arnaz Battle, Ashley Lelie and Jason Hill will also compete for playing time.
Johnson (6-foot-3, 215 pounds) played his rookie season under current 49ers receivers coach Jerry Sullivan.
In 77 career games, Johnson has 210 receptions for 2,675 yards and nine touchdowns. He had five catches for 80 yards -- matching his season-high -- against the 49ers in November. Johnson has not had a 100-yard receiving game in his career.
