Water OK'd in Bennett Ridge

Bennett Ridge residents in southeast Santa Rosa have been given the all-clear to drink water from their taps — 12 days after pollutants were first detected.

A series of eight tests were performed Monday and all came back clear Tuesday afternoon just after noon, according to Lea Brooks, a state Health Department spokeswoman.

The hilltop neighborhood relies on two elevated water tanks to serve approximately 125 homes.

The problem began on Feb. 21 when one of the tanks was refilled too soon after a chemical sealant was used to repair a leak. The tainted water was then pumped into the second tank and into customers’ homes.

The residents were told not to drink, bathe or cook with the water the next day.
