Late baseball star Rob Garibaldi, the state's Player of the Year in 1999, is among those who will be inducted into the Santa Rosa Junior College Hall of Fame on Saturday at the Santa Rosa Golf and Country Club.

This year's inductees also include former football player and coach Bob Mastin, running back Art Liebscher, quarterback Harley Miller, swimmer Donna Buckendahl and the 1988 women's basketball team.

Garibaldi, who committed suicide in 2002 following a steroids-induced depression, led the Bear Cubs to the '99 state-title game with a .459 average, 14 homers and 77 RBI. Garibaldi set single-season school records for hits (78) and runs (70). Garibaldi played at USC and was an all-Pac 10 outfielder.

Mastin, 90, who was inducted into the Hall as an athlete in 1997, served as SRJC's head coach in basketball (1947-62), baseball (1952), football (1962-64) and golf, a program he started in the 1950s and led until his retirement in 1979. He also was athletic director from 1962-73. His baseball team won a state title and his football teams were unbeaten in league.

Liebscher, an all-conference running back, helped lead SRJC to the mythical national junior college championship in 1954, earning MVP honors in a 41-6 win against LaSalle-Peru (Ill.) in the Gold Dust Bowl. Liebscher later played at the College of the Pacific and was drafted in the 21st round of the 1954 NFL Draft by the Green Bay Packers.

Miller, 49, led the Bear Cubs to their first state title in 28 years as a quarterback from 1977-78. He earned first-team All-America honors and threw for more than 4,500 yards and had 48 touchdowns in his career. He played at the University of Pacific under coach Bob Toledo, who later coached at UCLA.

Buckendahl, 41, won state titles in the 100 backstroke in 1985 and 1986. As a freshman, she finished second in the state in the 200 IM and posted national bests in the 50 and 100 backstroke.

She received All-American honors in four events in her career.

SRJC's 1988 women's basketball team, coached by Caren Franci, went 26-6 and won the state title with a 76-65 win over Long Beach City College in Sacramento.

Tina Gren was a first-team all-state selection.
