Five young people have been arrested in connection with the BB-gun shooting of a man at the Windsor Golf Club, the Sonoma County Sheriff's Department said Saturday.

Three juveniles were arrested Friday and one juvenile and one 18-year-old were arrested Saturday on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon other than a firearm, Lt. Sandy Geaslin said.

"It looks like they were just driving down the road and shot the BB gun," he said.

The youths are suspected of shooting a Cloverdale man in the leg with a BB gun Thursday as he drove a golf cart at the golf club.

Jim Ronlund, 65, was starting his weekly shift as a course marshal when he heard a pop and realized something had been fired into his thigh, colleagues said.

Ronlund was taken by ambulance to Kaiser Permanente Medical Center, Windsor firefighters said. Police Chief Steve Freitas said doctors didn't plan to remove the BB.

Ronlund reported looking up once he realized what had happened and seeing a car disappear down Golf Course Drive. Witnesses described several juveniles in a dark-colored SUV leaving the area around the same time.

Windsor police declined to comment on the case and no further information on the arrests, including the identity of the 18-year-old, was available Saturday.
