SAN DIEGO Munitions missing from base
Last Modified: Friday, February 8, 2008 at 3:39 a.m.
Riot-control hand-grenades and missile launchers used for training have been reported stolen from the Marine Corps Air Station at Miramar.
Marine officials say the munitions were believed to have been stolen over the weekend from a warehouse on the base. The break-in was discovered Tuesday during a routine inspection by Miramar's explosive ordnance disposal team. Officials say an inventory shows they are missing five missile launchers that had been rendered inoperative and 15 non-lethal grenades typically used to disperse crowds.
Officials say the munitions were stored in a rural area of the base.
